Context

Context

36 Days of Type is an annual global challenge that invites designers, illustrators, and typographers to create their own interpretation of a letter or number every day for 36 consecutive days, covering the full Latin alphabet plus digits 0 through 9. Started in Barcelona in 2014, it's grown into one of the most followed typography challenges in the design community, with participants worldwide sharing their work through the project's hashtag.

For my 2023 entry, I leaned into the raw, expressive energy of graffiti and street art, bringing bold colors and an urban, hand-styled feel to each letterform. It was as much about experimenting with typography as it was about capturing that sense of movement and rebellion that graffiti carries so naturally.

a small but meaningful recognition from the same community that inspired the challenge in the first place.

Most of the letters started as hand-drawn sketches in a notebook, letting the graffiti-inspired style come through more naturally before any digital tool got involved. Once a letterform felt right on paper, it was vectorized in Illustrator, refining the shapes.

Color choices weren't made letter by letter in isolation, they were planned with the full Instagram grid in mind, so that scrolling through the feed as a whole felt harmonious and vibrant, rather than each post existing as a standalone piece disconnected from the rest.
